Sesame seeds: November exports down by more than 20%

NEW DELHI. India's sesame seed exports continued to decline in November. Demand shift towards alternative origins, but buying interest in the domestic market is also not as high as usual.

Fierce competition

India's sesame seed exports leave a lot to be desired this season and domestic demand is also unusually low for this time of year. During the winter months, the domestic market tends to consume particularly large quantities of sesame seeds, also in the form of sesame oil. Meanwhile, Chinese buyers are primarily interested in alternative origins, with sesame seeds from Tanzania in particular enjoying great popularity.
