NEW DELHI. The latest import statistics from Germany indicate a surprising shift in demand, which may come as a shock to some exporters.

Surprising change in Germany
The import figures from Germany show a surprising change in the market. While Africa was slowly but surely gaining in importance over the last two years, India has now increased its market dominance this year. Imports from India to Germany rose by more than 1,000 mt in January-September, whereas imports from Nigeria, Uganda and Ethopia dropped. Contrary to this, the imports from these countries had risen in 2014 and 2015. Germany has also already made contracts with suppliers from India for the first quarter in 2017.
