NEW DELHI. Pressure from lack of demand and cheaper competitor origins are causing steady price adjustments in the Indian sesame seed market. Meanwhile, there is still uncertainty about yields for the coming crop.

Lack of demand

August was marked by regular price cuts for the Indian sesame seed market, pressure is high and the market is plagued by uncertainty. Demand from the international market has dropped rapidly and with competing prices from Pakistan being significantly cheaper at the same time, Indian sesame seed exporters are forced to adjust their offers. Exchange rate fluctuations also ensure that demand from Chinese buyers for Indian sesame seeds remains moderate.
