Sesame seeds: waiting for the new crop

NEW DELHI. Activity in the Indian sesame seed market is low, and traders expect the market to remain largely stable until the new crop arrives. However, a lack of demand continues to put pressure on prices.

Good quality should cause prices to rise

In the growing regions of Gujarat and other parts of India, the sesame seed plants have started to flower and the plants are developing. From the second week of May onwards, new goods are expected to hit the markets. Until then, the market is likely to remain quiet, with buyers and sellers waiting for the results, which will determine the prices for the summer crop. Currently, there is a lack of good quality sesame seeds on the market. Traders hope to achieve higher prices with better quality.
