Soya bean Meal: Exports up 86% in August

Soybean production in India is expected to fall by 13%

New Delhi: The production of soybean in the country is estimated to be 13.5 million tonne in the year 2017-18; The Indian branch of the US Agency for Agriculture (USDA) has expressed this estimate. In July, the USDA estimated production of soybean in India at 11.5 million tonnes.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, so far soybean sowing has been done in 10.5 million hectare in the country, which is 7.2% less than the same period last year. Sowing of soyabean in Madhya Pradesh sowing area has declined from 5.36 milllion hectares in last year's to 5.01 million hectares.

The USDA branch has released the estimated total oilseed production in the year 2017-18 from 38.6 million tonnes to 35.9 million tonnes. In the country, due to irregular rainfall and drought from June to mid-July, the estimation has been cut from the impact of sowing. This is the reason why the farmers turned towards other crops like cotton, Pulses and vegetables, instead of oilseeds.

Even with the low cost of oilseeds, the farmers reduced their interest in sowing and reduced the area. It has been stated in the report that these days oilseeds prices are 20-30% less than the same period last year. Import of edible oils in the country has been projected to increase by 10 percent to 16.6 million tonnes. Imported edible oils will contain 100 million tonnes of palm oil, 4.2 million tonnes of soybean oil, 2 million tonnes of sunflower oil and the rest of the oil.

In 2017-18, soymeal exports are likely to fall by 11% to 2.4 million tonnes from last year's estimates.
