Sultanas: farmers advised to hold back

MANISA. As farmers have started to lay out the crop for drying, they have been advised to hold their raisins back as best as they can.

Strategists seize the day

While the farmers in Manisa, which accounts for 90% of Turkey’s dried grape exports, have started to lay out seedless sultana grapes for drying, they have been advised not to sell too quickly. Issue is income, which has already risen sharply. Farmers, in fact, earned USD 401 million from 237,000 mt of raisins between September 2022 and August 2023 and earnings increased to USD 464 million for 199,000 mt of raisins as of August this year.
