Sultanas: Fluctuating prices due to speculation

MANISA. The Turkish sultana market has reached a turning point, with average export prices this season exceeding those of previous year. Speculators additionally drive up prices.

Higher prices than last year
Since the beginning of the season, Turkish dried-fruit suppliers have exported 201,594 mt of sultanas at an average price of 1,580 USD/mt; last year, average prices fell slightly short of this level at 1,577 USD/mt. This is the first time that the export price level exceeds that of previous year. The weak euro plays its expected part in driving up the apparent prices on the Turkish sultana market for prompt deliveries.
