Sultanas: prices cannot compete internationally

MANISA. This week starts with a public holiday in Turkey, which is likely to have an impact on the already low exports. Exporters do not want to think about price increases, while these remain the declared aim of growers.

One week after the SIAL in Paris, the verdict of Turkish dried fruit traders, regardless of whether they were there as exhibitors or visitors, is clear: Turkish sultanas are simply too expensive for foreign buyers at the moment. Many buyers are therefore turning to suppliers from other origins, who can offer their dried grapes at much more favourable prices.

The growers' high production costs mean that they are still not prepared to reduce their commodity prices. The current price for type 9 sultanas is TRY 95-105/kg. The farmers'
