Sultanas: rain and hail in Manisa

MANISA. Hail and low yields are a worry for sultanas in Manisa. Producers are calling on the TMO to act quickly. Sales are difficult.

Difficult sales

Manisa, Turkey’s production hotspot for raisins, witnessed rain for the first time in months on Monday. Yet, this rain was accompanied by hail in some parts of the province, which has caused damage in the vineyards and to the grapes laid out for drying. Producers are still busy assessing the extent of the damage. Silver lining is that the weather has finally cooled a bit with daytime temperatures forecasted at 34-35C (93-95F) and nighttime temperatures at 24-25C (75-77F) this week.
