MANISA. Trading is slow to pick up for sultanas in Turkey. Attention is centred on the new crop.

Trading at a standstill

Calmness still prevails in the market after last week's religious Eid al-Adha holiday. Prices are holding firm at TRY 120-125/kg for type 9 sultanas. Trading has come to a standstill at the Izmir Commodity Exchange in the last few weeks. Only upside is that alcohol companies are currently buying raisins. Temperatures have returned to seasonal normals in Manisa this week ranging at 35-36C (95-97F) throughout the day and at 21-24C (70-75F) at night.
