SOFIA. The last week passed very well in several respects for the Bulgarian farmers, whereas the situation is not as optimal for the buyers.

The good weather is helping the development of the winter crops, even though temperatures this week are a bit chilly for this time of year. It should warm up again somewhat in the next few days, though.

30,000 mt gone in one fell swoop
According to the export protocol, a ship in the port of Varna was loaded with 31,600 mt of sunflower seed kernels in shell between the 06.10.2016 and the 16.10.2016, and is now ready for shipment*. For Bulgarian conditions, that is approximately as though Indian exporters were winning the bid for a Korean sesame tender. Because of this, raw sunflower seed prices have increased steadily since last week, and are at the highest level of the season with 345 EUR/mt CPT Varna.

Bakery seeds are following suit
As a result of higher raw sunflower seed prices, prices rose compared to the week before from 640 EUR/mt to 645 EUR/mt FCA. Prices are supposed to increase up to 655 EUR/mt in the next few days. That does not change a thing for Moldavian sunflower seed kernels, which continue to maintain their price of 700 EUR/mt DDP Germany. However, traders are reporting that they would even be willing to drop the price by a few cents during the fair, if specific offers were made.
