Sunflower seeds: possible crop decline in Ukraine

SOFIA/KYIV. There is little trading activity on the sunflower seed market at the end of the year, however this does not mean that it is a quiet period. Many processors and suppliers are working at full capacity until the end of the year.

Transport is hard to come by

The sunflower seed harvest in Ukraine is almost complete at 99%. However, the production result to date cannot keep up with forecasts. Both the US Department of Agriculture and market analysts from UkrAgroConsult are still predicting a crop volume of 14.5 million mt and 14.2 million mt respectively. And even the Ukrainian Ministry of Agricultural Policy's estimate of 13 million mt is around 1 million mt higher than the previous result.
