Sunflower seeds: EU estimates on a downward trend

SOFIA/DALIAN. The European Commission has significantly lowered its crop forecast for the 2025/2026 season. Market players reckon that this may not be the last time if the current weather conditions persist.

France's crop forecast reduced by 233,000 mt

The ongoing drought and high temperatures of recent days are causing serious problems for sunflower seed crops in key EU growing countries. The European Commission has adjusted its crop forecasts for many countries compared to its May estimates. At 9.48 million mt, EU-wide production is expected to be 186,000 mt lower than previously assumed, but would still exceed last year's crop by 14.4%.
