Sunflower seeds: EU production estimates confirmed

SOFIA/BRUSSELS. EU sunflower seed production estimates are unusually close this year. The EU Commission recently estimated production at 10.67 million mt. Shipments from the US to the EU are up.

Starting from different positions

Coceral has basically confirmed the production estimates issued by the European Commission at the end of August as the association projects EU production at a very similar 10.35 million mt. While estimates for Bulgaria, France and Spain range very close to European Commission production estimates, there is a wide gap for Romania as Coceral only anticipates a production of 3 million mt here. The European Commission, by contrast, reckons with a larger production of 3.36 million mt in the country. Coceral also projects that production
