Sunflower seeds: EU production to increase by 16.6%

SOFIA/KYIV. The European Commission has adjusted its production estimate for the 2025 EU sunflower seed crop compared to the March report. In Ukraine, sowing is slower than last year and US farmers are expected to expand their acreage by almost 50% this year.

EU Commission announces new estimates

In its latest report, the European Commission estimates that EU sunflower seed production will total 9.669 million mt in 2025, an increase of 16.6% compared to the previous year. The crop in Romania is expected to grow by almost 50% to 2.229 million mt and higher results are also expected in Bulgaria (+16.3% to 1.871 million mt) and France (+22.4% to 1.797 million mt), while Hungarian sunflower seed production could even decline by 1.4% to 1.777 million mt.
