Sunflower seeds: expected production increase of 25%

SOFIA/KYIV. The Ukrainian Grain Association expects production to increase by 25% this year. In the EU, sunflower seed traders are waiting anxiously to see whether there will be an extension of import restrictions.

Almost 14 million mt in Ukraine

Ukrainian farmers have started this year's sunflower seed harvest in recent weeks. According to data from the Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy, 25,600 ha have been harvested so far, which is 0.5% of the sown area. With an average yield of 1.93 mt/ha, production currently stands at 49,400 mt. The Ukrainian Grain Association has increased its forecast for the 2023 oilseed and grain crop by 3.7 million mt to 80.5 million mt due to the prospect of better yields.
