Sunflower seeds: harvesting is not worth the effort

KYIV/CHISINAU. Moldova's crops are groaning under the heat, the forecasts are anything but rosy. Meanwhile, the first shiploads of Ukrainian sunflower seeds have arrived in Bulgaria.

Concern about yields

Heat and drought are causing massive problems for the crops in Moldova. As the Moldovan news agency IPN reports, sunflower seeds and corn are particularly affected. In regions with a low precipitation rate, yields are expected to drop by 50% compared to last year. In individual areas, primarily in the south of the country, there are even said to be total failures.
