SOFIA/KYIV. Small kernels, a high breakage rates and high prices are making hulled sunflower kernels unattractive this season. Suppliers are responding accordingly.

High prices dampen buying interest

High prices for hulled bakery kernels are putting massive pressure on demand this season. The high proportion of broken seeds is also contributing to the sluggish market situation. While commodity prices remain largely stable, hullers and suppliers are being forced to reduce their prices in order to keep business going. Currently, offers for bakery kernels from Bulgaria are back at a level of EUR 1.09/kg DDP Germany.
