SOFIA. Most of the Bulgarian suppliers avoid spot enquiries, and the few who still agree on doing them demand extremely high prices.

Spot prices on the rise

Buyers can currently only dream of spot prices below EUR 0.70 per kg DDP Germany. The summer break has found its way into many Bulgarian companies. This means that factories are maintaining and cleaning their machines and many workers have gone on holiday. This considerably reduces the processing capacities for prompt shipments and prices are climbing to EUR 0.73-0.78 per kg DDP Germany - and the trend is rising. The farmgate prices for black in-shells with a 98% purity, however, remain at the level of EUR 345 per metric tonne CPT Varna.

New crop around EUR 0,10 per kg cheaper

In the next two weeks, dry weather is expected in the growing regions, but the slightly cooler temperatures could partially compensate for the lack of moisture. So far the new crop is developing well, but farmers are not willing to bow to the price pressure of buyers and are keeping prices higher. Bakery kernels from the new crop are currently traded at a level of EUR 650-680 per metric tonne DDP Germany.
