Sunflower seeds: new production estimates due to concern over yields

SOFIA/KYIV. Although Ukraine's sunflower seed sowing presently lags 30% behind last year, it is far from complete. Exports to the EU over alternative routes are up an running and going at full speed. Coceral has surprised the market by issuing revised EU production estimates earlier than anticipated.

Exports running at full speed

Although Ukraine's Ministry of Agriculture has recently stated that sowing in general for all commodities only ranges 25% lower than last year and is even set to range higher in some parts of the country, the market remains in the dark as to the volumes which will be available in the new season. While farmers have sown 4.268 million ha this year so far, the area sown ranged at 6.123 millio ha one year ago.
