Sunflower seeds: uncertainty slows down buying

SOFIA/KIEV. Subdued demand is weighing on sunflower bakery kernel prices in Bulgaria. Customs authorities also report that less seeds are being bought for sowing in Ukraine.

Ukraine buys less seeds

According to customs authorities in Ukraine sunflower seed imports for sowing declined by 16% between November and December as opposed to the same period in 2020. Imports normally rise at this time of the year. This decline is attributed to the record production of 17.5 million mt and to the rise in producing and processing costs, which generates a high degree of uncertainty for sowing.
