Weather conditions favored some regions; others will record lower outputs. Yet, Bulgaria has not gone through the heat and dry conditions some Western European countries already have.

Currently barley, in several days rapeseed and afterwards or at about the same time with rapeseed in some regions, farmers will start to harvest wheat on a mass scale throughout the country.

Wheat: anticipation of the new crop is already mounting locally, as well as internationally

SOFIA. As much as rain belated harvest this year, so much it provided the so necessary water reserves in the soil throughout some regions of the country though. While harvest was officially started about ten days ago, it seems farmers from the South regions will dare to enter the fields in the upcoming week. The output there is projected to be lower.

In the North regions, the picture is different. In the beginning of next month, farmers are planning on entering the fields on a mass scale. Farmers from the North regions expect a strong harvest because of favorable weather conditions, although, when combined with the lower projected output from the South regions, forecasted aggregate production will be somewhat lower than that of harvest 2016-17. Weather is a key factor for a strong output.

On the Western front, agro-meteorological conditions already took its toll, as well. High temperatures, dry and /or drastic changes in weather conditions in countries of Western Europe have already affected wheat yield potential. France’s output is projected to be affected while that of Spain will suffer major losses.
