CHRUDIM. On the Czech blue poppy market, the premium quality supplies are noticeably shrinking, leading to a rapid increase in prices.

Prompt deliveries have meanwhile reached a level of 1,290 EUR/mt DDP Germany, that is an increase of 3% compared to last week. Since the beginning of the year, the prices for blue poppy seeds have varied between 1.18-1.23 EUR/kg, but then increased by about 7.5% within the last month.

Despite the generally weak demand during the summer months, traders assume that the prices will rise further until the new crop arrives. This could create a smooth price transition from the old into the new season. The new crop is being offered for 1,340 EUR/mt FCA Czech Republic.

The flowering phase has begun

There are more and more flower heads reaching for the sun on the fields, and conditions are good for plant development. However, the sparse showers are currently not enough to provide sufficient moisture; still there have been no reports of appreciable drought damage until now. Due to the smaller acreage, the Czech Statistical Office still estimates production at 25,600 mt.
