Grains and oilseeds: WASDE and ceasefire as main drivers

BRUSSELS. Revised estimated issued in the recent WASDE report and the fragile ceasefire agreed between the USA and Iran have differing impacts for wheat, corn and soy as well as rapeseed.

Higher EU wheat production anticipated

Wheat markets saw slight price rises this week, attributable to lower crop ratings in the US and higher crude oil prices due to the conflict in the Middle East. In contrast, the outlook for Russia’s crop has improved, with analyst ARGUS now forecasting 88.7 million mt – 1.2 million mt more than in November. In light of the Middle East conflict, many importers in the Persian Gulf have suspended purchases, which is limiting demand for wheat.
