Peanuts: global crop slightly down

NEW DELHI/REUS. According to the latest INC estimates, this year's global peanut crop will be slightly lower than last year's, even though the main producing countries have been able to increase their production. In India, growers still have cause for concern.

Prices in India continue to fall

Indian peanut prices remain under pressure this week. Arrivals at the mandis continue to rise, and traders and stockists are showing little buying interest due to quality problems and weak export demand. There is also a question mark over government purchases this year. The Gujarat government began purchasing peanuts at the minimum support price on 9 November, but quality analysis is still ongoing and purchases are proceeding very slowly.
