Peanuts: good crop prospects put pressure on prices

NEW DELHI/ATLANTA. As a very large crop is expected in India, price increases are rather unlikely in the coming weeks. In the USA, the weather phenomenon La Niña is causing concern among farmers.

Indian prices follow downward trend

The Indian peanut trade is currently on hold, as major arrivals of the new crop are expected in the third week of May. Buyers are not doing any business until then, meaning that peanut prices have fallen slightly once again. According to current estimates, the Indian crop is likely to be very large this year – Uttar Pradesh is expecting 300,000 mt, West Bengal 150,000 mt and Gujarat 100,000 mt.
