NEW DELHI/ATLANTA. Heavy rainfall has caused massive damage in India, but there has been no talk of compensation for peanut farmers so far. Indian market players are also facing further hurdles. In the USA, around 75% of the harvest has been completed.

Crop damage, import bans, quality defects

The Indian peanut trade has been experiencing severe turbulence since last week, and prices could be subject to considerable fluctuations in the coming weeks. This is due to heavy rainfall in the growing regions, which has caused massive damage to crops ready for harvest. Farmers are currently in a seemingly hopeless situation, as no help has been promised to them from any quarter. The government has not yet investigated the extent of the damage, nor has it provided any information regarding compensation for growers.
