NEW DELHI. Peanut prices in India have increased again, but the situation is likely to change soon due to government sales. Demand remains tight. Some farmers are switching to other crops.

Government sales increase supply pressure

Indian peanut prices have risen by 5% over the past four weeks. However, this rally could soon come to an end. Several factors suggest that the market is facing a correction and that prices could come under significant pressure in the coming weeks. Extensive sales by the state government and central government organisations are expected from 15 March onwards. The additional volumes are likely to supply the market with large stocks and trigger a price decline of 7 to 8%.
