NEW DELHI/BUENOS AIRES. After the declines of recent months, Indian suppliers are now pleased to see some stability in peanut prices. In Argentina, the weather is proving to be a decisive factor and the USA is expecting a slight increase in production.

Indian traders remain optimistic

As hoped for by Indian suppliers, peanut prices have stabilised due to reduced edible oil imports and have risen by USD 10/mt compared to last week. In addition, the government of Gujarat made large purchases totalling 1.2 million mt and paid record-breaking prices for them. This quantity purchased is mainly of mediocre or inferior quality, so farmers are still able to trade their high quality peanuts. Some processing factories have temporarily stopped working due to government purchases, according to market players.
