NEW DELHI/BUENOS AIRES. The price trend in India is proving complicated as there are too many factors at play. The quality of the Argentinian crop is excellent, while Chinese shipping companies want to increase freight costs.

Prices could stabilise in the longer term

Indian peanut prices have risen slightly compared to last week, but this is still no reason for suppliers to celebrate. Demand from China and Indonesia has picked up slightly, but is still far from the hoped-for volume. As production in India's southern growing states is expected to be lower this year, this should also stabilise domestic demand somewhat.
