NEW DELHI. After two months of weak sales, Indian peanut traders are now raising their hopes. One problem, however, is the quality of the new crop.

High air content

According to Indian peanut traders, the months of August and September were not crowned with great success in terms of sales; so far, a better trend is emerging for October. Prices were stable last week and are now showing a slight downward trend of USD 5/mt. Arrivals at important markets such as Gujarat are high and local traders have noticed that the air content in the shells is relatively high. However, they have little room for negotiation as demand from oil mills has taken off and they need sufficient goods to fulfil their contracts.
