Peanuts: new regulations hamper export trade

NEW DELHI. A notification from APEDA significantly tightening the export conditions for Indian peanuts is causing massive problems for exporters. The market is stagnating and the outlook is anything but rosy.

Strict parameters

The Indian peanut market has been stagnating for several weeks, and Indonesia's import ban on Indian peanuts due to excessive aflatoxin levels continues to take its toll. Now, APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority) has further shaken the market with a new announcement. It has published a 58-page letter containing strict parameters for the export of peanuts.
