Peanuts: remaining stocks affected by quality issues

NEW DELHI. A large proportion of the remaining stocks from the last peanut crop currently held in Indian warehouses no longer meet the required quality standards. This is putting downward pressure on prices, as is the prospect of larger acreage.

Weak trend in price movements

The peanut market is experiencing a sustained downward trend this month. Further price corrections are also expected in the coming weeks. Market players initially expect only temporary fluctuations, but the overall outlook remains weak. This has so far been less evident in export prices than in prices on the Indian domestic market – they remain unchanged from last week and stand at USD 1,245/mt FOB India for peanuts, Bold, 40-50 in non-EU-quality.
