Peanuts: still waiting for rain

NEW DELHI. India is still waiting for rain. Farmers have started harvesting peanuts in China and estimates are circulating in Brazil. Exports are really disappointing in Argentina and the US has witnessed some rain.

Dent on activities in India

Rain is still urgently required in India as yields may drop by as much as 25% if precipitation does not pick up. As the Hindu festival Krishna Janmashtami was celebrated last week, which marks the birth of Lord Kirshna, many markets remained closed and trading has been slow to revive. Yet, the sporadic arrival of fresh peanuts in Gujarat has left the market reliant on export demand and further price declines are anticipated.
