Raisins: US presidential election has drastic impact on prices

TEHRAN. Raisins have fluctuated heavily in price in Iran over the last few weeks. Buyers remained restrained in the run up to the US presidential elections. Events have now taken a new turn. Production is, meanwhile, being modernised in Qazvin Province.

Measures start to pay off

Traders in Europe frequently report that they are cautious with offers from Iran, especially with cheap offers. Issue is that the raisins do not always have the desired quality. Suppliers in Iran, however, report that the issue is been taken very seriously and that multiple measures have been adopted to improve quality. One case in point is Qazvin Province. With 35,000 hectares of vineyards the province is the second largest grape producer in Iran. Around 70% of the grapes produced here are converted in raisins.
