Raisins: anticipated slump in production

TEHRAN. As harvesting is about to start in Iran’s raisin production hotspot Malayer in the Hamedan Province hailstorms and frosts in spring are reckoned to have severely impacted production.

Malayer production to slump by 30%

Harvesting in Malayer will start in the second half of September and continue until the end of October. Market players, however, reckon that the rain and hailstorms in spring will cut grape production by approximately 30%. While annual grape production normally ranges at 240,000 mt, this year’s production is rather expected to range at 200,000 mt. Around 75% of the grapes harvested from the vineyards are usually converted into raisins and around four kg of grapes are required to produce 1 kg of raisins, meaning that this year
